Next community meeting set on Feb. 18, 2025, 4:30 p.m. at Helene Hall
Please join us and Hāna community representatives as we continue the process of exploring a multiuse pathway through Hāna town. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss what has been accomplished to date and present pathway designs for community feedback. Understanding community preferences is an essential part of the planning process.
Sign-up: Tuesday, February 18 · 4:30 - 6pm HST
The Hana Community Pathway Study envisions a 5.5-mile multimodal greenway linking important resources and services like Hāna Elementary and High School, Hāna Health, and the farmers' market, allowing both residents and visitors to safely walk, bike, or roll through their community. Currently, Hāna Highway is the only road connecting the daily services and destinations of its residents and visitors. This two-lane road is winding, narrow, and the speeds of cars on the highway frequently surpass the 25-mph limit.
The pathway aims to increase connectivity, accessibility, and safety by designating dedicated walkways and trails for pedestrians separate from the highway.

Announcements
- Hāna Community Pathway Study: Pathway Visualization Community Meeting on Tuesday, February 18th 4:30pm – 6:00pm at Helene Hall by Kapueokahi (Hāna) Bay
South Maui experiences a lack of safe bicycle and pedestrian connections along major roadways like South Kīhei Road and Piʻilani Highway, creating challenges for residents trying to access destinations. Following the recommendations of a traffic study, Quick Build Treatments were installed by the County at the intersection of Kenolio Road and Alulike Street. With the traffic safety improvements complete (Phase 1), the Maui MPO is proposing to implement street art (Phase 2) within the newly created, unused, space outside of the vehicular travelway at the intersection of Alulike Street and Kenolio Road in the community of Kihei. The design of the street art will be informed and implemented by the local community, in partnership with the project’s artist. The goal of this project is to add a splash of color to beautify and enhance the character of Kihei while encouraging drivers to slow down.
Complete a street art survey - deadline on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025
