Join “Creating Healthier Communities” for a Vision Zero Launch followed by a memorial bike ride in honor of Karl Hagen, who was fatally struck while riding his bicycle on the shoulder of Pi‘ilani Highway in 2014. The goal of this event is to bring together elected leaders, engineers, police, community members, and safety advocates to promote solutions that move Maui toward the goal of Vision Zero: no traffic fatalities by 2040. Everyone has the right to be safe on Maui’s roads.
8:30 am Event registration at Kalama Park (near pavilion by skating rink)
9:00 am Vision Zero proclamation by Mayor Arakawa
9:50 am Memorial bike ride through Kihei led by Maui Bicycling League
11:30 am Lunch for event participants at Kalama Park Old Pavilion
