Transportation Improvement Program FFY 2022-2025(+2)

The TIP includes all transportation projects on Maui that use federal highway or transit money or are regionally significant. By identifying projects in the TIP, Maui can receive funding for roads, bridges, bus transit, trails, paths, and sidewalks.

Maui MPO used the Hele Mai Maui 2040 Transportation Plan as the basis for the 2022-2025 TIP, and coordinated with the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT), Maui County Department of Public Works (DPW) and Maui County Department of Transportation (MDOT) to identify priority projects and assign them to the appropriate years. Since federal funds cover only 80% of project costs, State and County funds must be available for the additional 20%.

Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) FFY 2019-2022

Maui MPO creates a new four-year TIP every three years—so there is an overlap year between the current and new TIP—and leads revisions to the current TIP twice a year. Once the Maui TIP is approved by the Policy Board, HDOT includes the Maui TIP in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). FHWA and FTA approve the STIP; a project must be on an approved STIP in order for federal funds to be used on that project.

In June 2018, the Policy Board approved the FFY 2019-2022 Maui TIP. Revisions to the TIP project list are shown in the table below.
